What to Do During “The Walking Dead” Mid-Season Hiatus

WHAT??? No Walking Dead until February 2014? What are you gonna do?

Now that The Walking Dead as gone on its mid-season hiatus, you might be looking for some other zombie related entertainment to get you through the next couple of months. If you look online you’ll find hundreds of Top Ten Zombie Movie lists, but there are really only a few that you should seek out immediately.

Night of the Living Dead: This is pretty obvious, but if you go back and watch this again, you can see just how far the genre has come. There are actually two versions of this movie, and they are both worth watching. The original, black and white version is where George Romero gave birth to the modern version of the zombie and the notion that destroying the brain was the key to stopping them. The other version is the 1990 version that’s in color. While it may seem sacrilegious to remake a classic, this one is a pretty nice update of the original.

I’ve been saving this post for Halloween, and for good reason. Halloween, or better still, Samhain, is the time when the dead truly walk among us. Who doesn’t love a ghost story? Arguably, the best part of John Carpenter’s classic, The Fog, is the very beginning when John Houseman tells ‘one more story‘ on the beach just before midnight.

Even better are the true tales of hauntings and wayward spirits.

Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia is on just about every paranormal enthusiast’s bucket list, including my own. Ghosts aside, the enormous, crumbling prison is a living piece of history, some of those aspects carrying on through time. It’s been featured on many of the ParaTV shows, and my own daughter, the future Monster Woman, Ivy Shea, has been there twice – on school trips of all things!

Episode 50! The Men Who Were Dracula

If you told us when we were recording our first Monster Men podcast that we would still be rolling along 49 episodes later, we would have probably laughed you out of the Monster Men Studio. Goes to show what we know.

We started this madness talking about vampires, so we figured it’s only right to celebrate our 50th episode waxing poetic about the men who played Dracula throughout the last 90 years. Grab a pint of blood, relax your bat wings and join the celebration. And while you’re at it, tell us who your favorite Dracula was in the movies.

OK, after 2 years of living without a website, the Monster Men finally have their own dungeon…I mean home. We’re just a few days away from October, or what Jack and Hunter call #Horrortober. That means prepping for Halloween, watching a  horror movie a day, scary reads and saving our sheckles for horror cons.

We’re going to add the Monster Men archives over the next few weeks, which means you’ll be able to watch all 48 episodes right here, in the comfort of our horrid abode.
