BLACK SUNDAY (1960) A nice melodramatic Netflix #Horrortober pick for old school horror fans & students of the vampire genre.
My Review
I have not seen Black Sunday since I was a kid, a million years ago. It was fun to revisit it on Netfilx. One of the most striking visuals in horror is the wide-eyed, hauntingly beautiful image of Barbara Steele’s face as the vampire witch who returns from the grave for revenge. This movie is an atmospheric classic and a must see for vampire fans that want to discover the roots of the genre. Not the best movie in the world, but an important part of horror cinema history.

Just rewatched that freaking awesome season premiere of The Walking Dead. Perfect #Horrortober TV. What a kick ass episode.
My Review
If you are a fan of The Walking Dead, like me, you probably love the show but get frustrated at times at the pace of some of the stretches. Then an episode like the season premier comes along and reminds you just why you adore this program. This episode was one of the best ever.
This one had it all. Action packed. Dramatic and tense moments. Heart warming reunions. Blood and gore. Eugene’s mullet. Bad-ass Carol.
Let me repeat that last one. Bad-ass Carol.

Visiting The House of the Devil
0Hunter back on the prowl.
The House of the Devil was my introduction to writer/director Ti West. When I first saw it, I thought, “How the heck did I miss this movie? It must have come out 30 years ago!” Set in the early 80’s, West perfectly captures the look, sound and feel of movies made in that era. Released in 2009, I love this movie so much, I’ve watched it once every year since.
Uber cutie Samantha needs $300 so she can get an apartment and move out of her dorm. In comes a babysitting opportunity that, although highly strange and very creepy, can get her all that and more. The movie says it’s based on true Satanic cult stories. Oh, and of course she’s babysitting on the night of a full eclipse of the moon. Don’t watch this one alone.
When you’re done with The House of the Devil, check out Ti West’s haunted hotel flick, The Innkeepers. I’ve come to realize that people either love or hate it. I’m in the former category.
I also plan to watch his latest this weekend, The Sacrament. Cult leader goes bad. I’m making Kool Aid and popcorn! I hope it’s as good as the cult vignette from V/H/S2.
Cheap Thrills
0Welcome to Hunter’s #Horrortober viewing odyssey. Last night’s much anticipated flick was Cheap Thrills. I’ve been dying to see this ever since I saw a promo for it earlier this year and heard the review on Bloody Good Horror.
My big worry was that I’d built it up so much in my mind, the actual movie would fall far short. I’m happy to say I was dead wrong.
Cheap Thrills is funny, twisted, gross and just plain sick. A rich married couple grab two schmoes into their orbit one night, paying them to do stupid things like slap a stripper’s ass or piss on one another’s shoes. Things escalate as the night wears on – naturally.
Need a great new movie to watch this Halloween? This is the one.
