Hunter back on the prowl.
The House of the Devil was my introduction to writer/director Ti West. When I first saw it, I thought, “How the heck did I miss this movie? It must have come out 30 years ago!” Set in the early 80’s, West perfectly captures the look, sound and feel of movies made in that era. Released in 2009, I love this movie so much, I’ve watched it once every year since.
Uber cutie Samantha needs $300 so she can get an apartment and move out of her dorm. In comes a babysitting opportunity that, although highly strange and very creepy, can get her all that and more. The movie says it’s based on true Satanic cult stories. Oh, and of course she’s babysitting on the night of a full eclipse of the moon. Don’t watch this one alone.
When you’re done with The House of the Devil, check out Ti West’s haunted hotel flick, The Innkeepers. I’ve come to realize that people either love or hate it. I’m in the former category.
I also plan to watch his latest this weekend, The Sacrament. Cult leader goes bad. I’m making Kool Aid and popcorn! I hope it’s as good as the cult vignette from V/H/S2.
