It’s here! It’s here! The Monster Men Halloween episode 2015!

Monster Men 89: Halloween Show! Pumpkin Cinema, Horror Movies & Books, Pumpkin Ale

It’s the Halloween episode of the Monster Men. This show is packed with more Halloween goodness than is inhumanly possible.

During the show we enjoy a delicious Ichabod Pumpkin Ale while we discuss our plans for the 2015 Halloween season. First we explore the amazing Halloween book, PUMPKIN CINEMA, a comprehensive guide to Halloween movies and TV shows. It is a fun read and a must read for any Halloween enthusiast. We discuss movies like MONSTER SQUAD, DARK NIGHT OF THE SCARECROW, HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP, RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD and TERROR IN THE AISLES. Even Daffy Duck’s Quakbusters!

Then we move on to the #Horrortober Reading List, where we recommend a ton of great horror novels and scary books for the Halloween season. This includes books by Jason Brant, Brian Moreland, Cat Cavendish, Russell James, Kristopher Rufty and Glenn Rolfe.

Monster Men 88: We Are Still Here, The Dover Demon, Horror Movie Picks

On this episode of the Monster Men we review four very different horror movies. They include the ghostly WE ARE STILL HERE, the found footage alien flick, AREA 51, the hard-to-find found footage pioneer THE LAST BROADCAST and the absolutely crazy ALYCE KILLS.

Then we learn about the legend behind Hunter Shea’s new horror novel, THE DOVER DEMON, inspired by a real story out of Dover, Mass.

Cheap Thrills

cheap thrills

Welcome to Hunter’s #Horrortober viewing odyssey. Last night’s much anticipated flick was Cheap Thrills. I’ve been dying to see this ever since I saw a promo for it earlier this year and heard the review on Bloody Good Horror.

My big worry was that I’d built it up so much in my mind, the actual movie would fall far short. I’m happy to say I was dead wrong.

Cheap Thrills is funny, twisted, gross and just plain sick. A rich married couple grab two schmoes into their orbit one night, paying them to do stupid things like slap  a stripper’s ass or piss on one another’s shoes. Things escalate as the night wears on – naturally.

Need a great new movie to watch this Halloween? This is the one.

Vampires! Looking for a good vampire movie this Halloween or maybe a good book about bloodsuckers? We’ve got you covered.

Everybody loves a good vampire movie or book, but these days they can be hard to find. We’re talking about good, old-fashioned vampires. The kind that are scary, seductive and evil.

On this episode of the Monster Men video podcast, we discuss some great vampire movies from all eras and a few that you may not have heard of or seen. We also cover a number of new and classic vampire novels. Some of the best vampire stories are found in a book rather than a TV show or film.

We welcome back guest Jonathan Janz, author of the western vampire novel, DUST DEVILS. This book is a must read for vampire fans and harkens back to classics like Fright Night and Near Dark.

Some of the films discussed include Salem’s Lot, Nosferatu, Fright Night, Count Yorga, Dracula, Near Dark, Let the Right One In. Only Lovers Left Alive and The Horror of Dracula

Books include Dracula, Vampire$, Fevre Dream, Let the Right One In, The Light at End and more.

This is the End, Redheads, We Are What We Are

1

It’s not the end of the world, but it is a new episode of Monster Men. This time we’re discussing the hilarious apocalyptic comedy, THIS IS THE END. Plus a book review of the terrific novel, REDHEADS by Jonathan Moore. We also talk about a very interesting horror movie called WE ARE WHAT WE ARE.

You don’t want to miss this one.

Monster Hunting with Lyle Blackburn

1

This episode of Monster Men is such a big event, we had to present it in two parts. This time out we interview renowned monster hunter Lyle Blackburn, author of THE BEAST OF BOGGY CREEK and LIZARD MAN. His books are must reads for fans of cryptozoology, urban legends and monsters.

Lyle Blackburn Part 1: The Lizard Man

Lyle Blackburn Part 2: The Beast of Boggy Creek

In part one of our interview we focus on the Lizard Man, the mysterious monster of Bishopville, NC. Lyle investigated this case firsthand and his stories and accounts from actual witnesses will astound you. He’s got every angle covered and his book is fascinating.

In part two of our interview, we discuss Lyle’s true passion, the legendary Fouke Monster of Boggy Creek. Ever since Lyle saw the movie “The Legend of Boggy Creek” as a kid, he has been fascinated by this Bigfoot-like creature that lurked the very swamps near where his family would vacation. Now Lyle is a leading authority on this topic and his book, THE BEAST OF BOGGY CREEK, is the definitive source on the subject.

Naturally, it would not be an episode of Monster Men if we didn’t do a little movie and TV talk. We also discuss some of Lyle’s favorite horror movies, monsters and TV shows and find we have a lot in common with him. We also find out what it’s like to hang out with the guys from FINDING BIGFOOT.

We are sure you’re going to love this episode. We sure did. After the show, be sure to check out Lyle’s books. For all things Lyle Blackburn, you can visit his website at www.lyleblackburn.com

Hunter Shea – Thriller Writer (But Always A Monster Man)

Another day, another genre, another monster.

Hunter Shea

Man, has it been hard to keep this one under my extra-large Mets cap (which has been replaced by my Seahawks snap-back). Well, I can’t hold it in anymore. I’m incredibly excited to let you all know that my first thriller novel, THE MONTAUK MONSTER, will be out as a Pinnacle paperback this June. This is part one of a two book deal. I’m busy at work putting together the framework for my next thriller (while finishing the final draft of the Sinister Entity follow up where things go in a totally new, and darker direction).

First, what do you think of the cover? Nice choppers on that bad boy, huh?

Here’s a little bit about the book:

It Kills. . .

On a hot summer night in Montauk, the bodies of two local bar patrons are discovered in the dunes, torn to shreds, their identities unrecognizable. . .

What to Do During “The Walking Dead” Mid-Season Hiatus

0

WHAT??? No Walking Dead until February 2014? What are you gonna do?

Now that The Walking Dead as gone on its mid-season hiatus, you might be looking for some other zombie related entertainment to get you through the next couple of months. If you look online you’ll find hundreds of Top Ten Zombie Movie lists, but there are really only a few that you should seek out immediately.

Night of the Living Dead: This is pretty obvious, but if you go back and watch this again, you can see just how far the genre has come. There are actually two versions of this movie, and they are both worth watching. The original, black and white version is where George Romero gave birth to the modern version of the zombie and the notion that destroying the brain was the key to stopping them. The other version is the 1990 version that’s in color. While it may seem sacrilegious to remake a classic, this one is a pretty nice update of the original.

The Ghosts Of Eastern State Penitentiary & The Scariest Places In The World

0

The Monster Men haven’t been to the Eastern State Penitentiary, but Monster Woman in training, Ivy Shea, has, and she may have caught something strange on her camera.

Hunter Shea

I’ve been saving this post for Halloween, and for good reason. Halloween, or better still, Samhain, is the time when the dead truly walk among us. Who doesn’t love a ghost story? Arguably, the best part of John Carpenter’s classic, The Fog, is the very beginning when John Houseman tells ‘one more story‘ on the beach just before midnight.

Even better are the true tales of hauntings and wayward spirits.

Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia is on just about every paranormal enthusiast’s bucket list, including my own. Ghosts aside, the enormous, crumbling prison is a living piece of history, some of those aspects carrying on through time. It’s been featured on many of the ParaTV shows, and my own daughter, the future Monster Woman, Ivy Shea, has been there twice – on school trips of all things!

The first time she went several years ago, she said…
