Halloween is here and for the Monster Men, that’s the most wonderful time of the year. To celebrate our favorite holiday, we keep it simple.
We crack a couple of horror themed beers, Two Roads Route of All Evil, and discuss all things Halloween. This includes some food sampling of various Halloween foods, reminiscing about costumes from our past and discussing a few books that are perfect for the season.
The books are “The Beauty of Horror: A GOREgeous Coloring Book” by Alan Robert and “The Stand” by Stephen King. And be sure to listen to how you can win a copy of the Dark Dossier Halloween issue. And check them out at http://www.darkdossier.com
It’s October and that means it’s Horrortober here at Monster Men. This time we’ve created a 31 movie watchlist using the cool book “31 Days of Terror: The Game”. This book has compiled hundreds of films by category, and listed them so that you can create a list of movies to watch every day of the month, simply by rolling the dice.
Watch our entire list, just pick a few that pique your interest or better yet, buy the book and make your own list. No matter how you do it, this book is a great resource for finding new, old and different horror movies to watch.
Have fun and don’t forget to tell us about the movies you watch all month. Post your flicks on Twitter and tag it with #Horrortober. You can tag us too if you’d like at @backinjack and @huntershea1
On this episode of Monster Men we discuss the first family of paranormal investigation, Connecticut’s own Ed and Lorraine Warren. The couple that is at the center of The Conjuring cinematic universe, including the Annabelle movies.
Before they were a sensation on the silver stream, these two were blazing a trail as ghost hunters, before ghost hunting was even a thing. We’ve actually attended seminars hosted by the Warrens, and watch countless hours of their content on TV and online.
Join us as we tell stories about our encounters and our thoughts of their legacy in the field of paranormal investigation.
We are going ape for The Planet of the Apes on this episode of Monster Men. We sit down to reminisce about all the Apes films from A to Z… or Apes to Zaius.
This includes: Planet of the Apes (1968) Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970)
Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971)
Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972)
Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973)
Planet of the Apes (2001) Remake
Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014)
War for the Planet of the Apes (2017)
We also touch on the TV show and the absolute Ape-mania that gripped the country in the early seventies. If you have an affinity for all things Apes, you’ll go bananas for this one.
Fins to the left! Fins to the right! Just in time for Sharnado 5: Global Swarming, the Monster Men present a look back at some of the best and worst shark movies through the years. Naturally, we start with JAWS, the crown jewel, or crown fin of shark movies, and from there we cover such classics as Deep Blue Sea, Bait, Mako, Blue Water, White Death, Two-Headed Shark attack and more.
We also discuss a few new shark books including Sharkwater Beach by Tim Meyer, Shark Island by Chris Jameson and Megalodon in Paradise by some guy named Hunter Shea.
You’re gonna need a bigger boat for this episode.
Plus, we are happy to announce that we have launched FINAL GUYS, a new podcast available on iTunes and our website. We have joined forces with our friend Jason Brant from the So Bad It’s Good show and Drinking with Jason. Each week we discuss a featured movie, generally horror, but we also cover superhero movies, sci-fi and other genre favorites. Please check it out and spread the word.
Welcome to Poveglia, the most haunted island on Earth! Author J.H. Moncrieff has been there and on this episode of Monster Men, she tells us her stories.
Just off Venice in Italy, Poveglia is known as one of the world’s most haunted places.
Poveglia has a terrifying, plague-infected history complete with a creepy mental hospital, a deranged doctor, the buried remains of hundreds of people and maybe a ghost or two. The island is a legendary haunted location and off limits to the public, but that did not stop our courageous guest. Not only did she make it to the island, but she explored it alone. (Just her and the ghosts.) You will love her stories.
She also shares a few other fascinating stories of her paranormal experiences, which just might have you leaving a light on tonight.
J.H. Moncrieff is a delightful person and an amazing author. You won’t want to miss her books; City of Ghosts, The Girl Who Talks to Ghosts and The Bear Who Wouldn’t Leave.
You can find J.H. Moncrieff on her website, http://www.jhmoncrieff.com or on Twitter at @JH_Moncrieff
